The 2017 Dodge Journey is an affordable five- or seven-passenger family crossover. It comes in five trims the SE, the sporty SXT, the Crossroad, the Crossroad Plus, and the GT which is new for 2017.
Interior
The interior is comfortable and appealing with lots of storage and plenty of leg room for second-row passengers. The Journey includes standard features such as dual-zone manual climate control, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a sliding and reclining second-row seat, and a six-speaker sound system with auxiliary audio jack and USB port. The Flexible Seating package with the tri-zone manual climate control and the 50/50-split Third row is included on the SXT and can be added to the SE. The Crossroad includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. The Crossroad Plus has the tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, LED interior lighting, a six-way power driver seat, four-way power lumbar adjustment, a front passenger seat that folds flat into a hidden storage bin, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, an SD card slot, a DVD player, and a cargo net. The GT adds the remote engine start, perforated leather upholstery with red stitching, heated front seats and steering wheel, an interior observation mirror, a 115-volt power outlet and a premium audio system. Most features on the upper level trims are available in option packages for the lower level trims. Other features that can be added to the Journey include second-row child booster seats, a sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and a navigation system. With the seats down the Journey provides 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space.
Exterior
Heated mirrors, roof rails, and 17-inch steel wheels are standard for the Journey. Foglights, LED taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels come with the SXT. The Crossroad adds a gloss black and chrome exterior trim and 19-inch wheels.
Under the Hood
All the trims except the GT come with the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine with four-speed automatic transmission. The GT has a 3.6-liter, V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, a sport-tuned suspension, AWD, and FWD. An optional V6 engine is recommended for the other trims but it is only offered with AWD.
Safety
The Journey scored four out of five stars for overall crash protection and for front-impact crash protection in government crash tests. It received five stars for side-crash protection. It received the top score of Good in all but one category from the IIHS. The Journey has front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, driver knee airbags, traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, and active front head restraints. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are also available.
