2019 Audi Q8 Review: New, Attractive, and with a Solid Value

The 2019 Audi Q8 tops Audi’s SUV line in terms of prestige. Size, however, is another matter. In an interesting turn of events, Audi decided to make the Q8 a bit smaller than the Q7, although the 2019 model still has a more aggressive front, a wider stance, and a sloping roofline. What buyers will get is a luxury SUV in a coupé-style layout that can definitely rival other fashionable cars like the Mercedes GLE Coupé and BMW X6. That being said, how is the 2019 Audi Q8 any different than previous models? As it turns out, the 2019-year model has a lot to offer.

Driving

Currently the Q8 is available with just one engine: a 3.0-liter V6. Speeding up with this engine means it will barely be heard in the Q8. It won’t disturb any peace, apart from the wind noise that’s a bit audible when driving. The Q8 has impressive handling, but there’s a little body lean through corners. The quattro four-wheel drive, however, makes sure that traction isn’t a problem. Sharp steering also has no problems. Four-wheel-drive steering is standard on the highest trim and an option on the lower ones. One benefit is that it makes the vehicle feel a bit sharper on the turn in and bit more stable at motorway speeds, but perhaps the biggest advantage to it is a minimized turning circle.

Interior

All the Q8 trim levels come with Audi’s own MMI dual-touchscreen infotainment system. However, this is could be a deal breaker for some people because it does away with the physical buttons. No physical buttons means operating these functions likely requires drivers to take their eyes off the road. The material quality on the entirety of the interior is what one would expect in a luxury vehicle, and the digital instruments on the virtual cockpit are standard. Users can customize what information they want to be displayed for their convenience. The steering wheel provides no shortage of a wide range of movement, so people can drive according to what position with which they are most comfortable. Furthermore, the front sports seats are electrically adjustable with lumbar support and an extendable base, ensuring extreme comfort even on a long distance drive. Visibility all around is great, even out of the back. The Q8 also has a heated side mirrors, LED headlights, and a camera with a virtual 360-degree view.

Practicality and Space

The Q8 won’t make anyone feel crammed, even the tallest passengers, in part thanks to the ample legroom. What’s limited in space is the luggage capacity because of a shorter rear overhang. But compared to others, the Q8’s boot is still bigger, and only slightly smaller than the GLE Coupé. What’s guaranteed, though, is that there’s enough room for a family. Around the center console, there are some storage compartments. Users can also increase the luggage area by sliding forward the rear seats so that they’re almost flat. There are also reclining backrests.

Trim Levels

The Q8’s entry level is the Q8 Premium model, followed by the Premium Plus, and the highest trim is the Q8 Prestige. Event he base trim is packed with features. Those who opt for the highest level, however, upgrade to 22-inch wheels, four-wheel drive, adaptive cruise control, and an upgraded stereo. Those who stick to the lower trim will still get a car that’s more expensive looking than the Q7, with a price similar to the GLE Coupé and BMW X6.

When it comes to running costs, the Q8 won’t burn too big of a hole in the pocket, with prices starting at $67,400.

Final Thoughts

Overall, those wanting a refined, spacious, classy vehicle, and that coupé-SUV look, should definitely take a look at the all-new Audi Q8.
