2019 Jeep Renegade Review

The Renegade is the smallest SUV that Jeep has made, and it is also their first product manufactured in Italy. There are four different trim packages available with several changes made for the 2019 model. The SUV is available both in front-wheel and all-wheel drive, so options are within the buyer’s hands.

The Renegade comes standard with many high-tech features to catapult drivers into a luxurious and advanced driving experience, including the following upgrades…

Upgrades

Safety and power are key to the 2019-model upgrades. The front and rear have been modernized with the addition of optional LED tail and head lamps. Customization is now easier than ever, with Jeep having added a few new exterior colors, along with updated wheel designs.

The engine has been upgraded, too, resulting in a powerful boost…

Roaring Engine

Besides a boost in power, safety features also get an upgrade. Some of these upgrades include a system that recognizes traffic signs. The manual transmission is now history, with the only available one being a 9-speed automatic.

A 1.4 L turbo engine that was standard is also gone. Now, a 2.4-L, 4-cylinder one replaces it on some trims and comes optional on others. There’s also a 1.3-L turbocharged engine that puts out more horsepower than the discontinued 1.4 version…

Horsepower

Both engines put out close to the same horsepower and torque. The larger 4-cylinder displacing 2.4 liters gives 180 HP with 174 lb-ft of torque. Those who opt for the turbo engine will get a 1.3-liter engine that puts out 177 HP and 200 lb-ft torque.

Fortunately, all this power doesn’t mean running through too much gas, either…

Fuel Economy

Gas mileage is pretty decent for this vehicle, so drivers won’t have to worry as much about guzzling up gas. The larger engine should give a combined fuel rating of 26 MPG. The smaller turbo engine will get better mileage with a combined rating of close to 30 MPG.

Of course, each trim will perform differently; let’s take a look…

Trim Models

There’s a Renegade for everyone’s needs. There are several trim packages available for the 2019 model. The lowest-priced model is the Sport. Moving up with a few more customizable options is the Latitude. The next level up is the noticeably more luxurious Limited. The Trailhawk is top of the line, with real off-road capabilities due to a high- and low-range switch.

Keep reading to learn more about each of these impressive trims…

Sport

This model is the base package. However, that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in features! Safety is definitely a priority here. This year’s upgrade includes a front-collision alarm and a warning for lane departure. Even better, there’s a rear-facing camera as well as a monitor for blind spots.

The interior also boasts some great technological updates. There is a standard 7-inch display for the infotainment system with an option available for a larger screen. These systems are compatible with both Android and Apple phone systems.

As great as the base is, the next few trims levels bring everything up a notch…

Latitude and Limited

Those who want to move on up can find plenty to love about the Latitude trim. Removable roof panels give this Renegade model an open sky while driving. The Limited features also include more stylish chrome, luxuriously heated leather seats, and large 19-inch wheels.

For those who want an unmatched off-roading experience, the following trim is a must…

Trailhawk

Those who want off-road driving capabilities need look no further. This trim has nine inches of ground clearance, skid plates, and a built-in control for hill descent to handle even the bumpiest terrain. It’s not just bumpy dirt that this beast can handle, either. The 2019 Renegade Trailhawk trim is also capable of driving through up to 19 inches of water!

The Trailhawk features an active, low-gearing driving system that allows the vehicle to barely crawl. This is combined with a terrain-shifter knob with an available rock-crawling mode. These features all help the Trailhawk go over rocks without kicking the turbo boost in.

So, just what can you expect inside the cabin of this beast?…

Other Impressive Features

Some other items available on the Renegade are Bluetooth hookup and a Beats Audio system with a subwoofer and eight speakers. The terrain-control knob has several modes, including automatic, snow, mud, and sand. The Trailhawk also has a special selection for rock crawling.

So, what should you know about owning this impressive vehicle?…

Final Thoughts

The 2019 Jeep Renegade has options available that will be hard for its competition to match, such as removable roof panels and true four-wheel drive. It still handles great, giving a superb ride to both drivers and passengers.

No matter which trim package people opt for, they are still getting the off-road capabilities that are practically synonymous with Jeep. These capabilities all make for a great vehicle for both city driving and rough off-road adventures.
