Infiniti Q50 Review: Reasonably Priced Luxury Sports Sedan

Those in the market for a small luxury sports sedan will find the 2019 Infiniti Q50 a smart choice. From its spacious trunk size to its long list of standard safety and infotainment features, the Q50 has a lot to offer any driver.

Trim Levels

The Infiniti Q50 has four trim levels, each of which is equipped with a given engine. The base trim is the 2.0t Pure, which is equipped with a 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This engine produces 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0t has a 3.0-L turbo V6 that generates 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Up from that is the 3.0t Luxe, a variant that offers not just the standard features but adds a sunroof, wooden trim, voice command, and 18-inch wheels. There is also the 3.0t Sport variant, which gives you 19-inch wheels with performance tires, heated front sport seats, and a 16-speaker Bose sound system.

The line-topper is known as the Red Sport 400. This vehicle is equipped with a V6 that has boosted power, giving it 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. It standardizes some of the luxury features that are available on the 3.0t Sport.

Other Mechanical Specs

So, what other mechanical features come equipped on the Infiniti Q50? Well, drivers can take their pick between rear- and all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the base 2.0t trim level, although drivers have the option to opt for AWD instead.

A 7-speed automatic transmission comes standard, as do Infiniti drive selector and hill-start assist. There is a standard vehicle-speed-sensitive hydraulic electronic power steering system, active trace control (which adjusts torque and braking in order to improve cornering), and 4-wheel ABS.

Infotainment Features

Infotainment features come in abundance on the Infiniti Q50. Even for a luxury vehicle, the Q50 is well stocked-up on multimedia specs. A 6-speaker audio system comes standard, but you have the option of upgrading to a massive 16-speaker Bose Centerpoint simulated surround system. Drivers also get two USB ports, a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and a good number of controls mounted onto the steering wheel of the base 2.0t trim level.

The higher the trim levels, the more standard infotainment features there are. For example, the 3.0t Sport provides drivers with the ability to play back multimedia digital files stored on a USB flash drive.

Safety Features

Infiniti also loads the Q50 full of standard safety options. Brake assist, a tire-pressure monitoring system, backup-collision intervention, blind-spot monitoring, and forward emergency braking all come on the Q50. Drivers can also opt for extra safety features, such as blind-spot intervention, lane-departure prevention and warning, and active lane control.

Additionally, there are some helpful security features loaded onto the 2019 model. An engine immobilizing system, remote keyless entry, an intelligent key backup slot, and a security system all work to keep the Q50 easy to enter for owners but difficult for would-be thieves.

When someone think of luxury vehicles, they probably think of hefty price tags. But Infiniti keeps the Q50’s prices fairly reasonable for vehicles of this caliber. The 2.0t trim level has a starting MSRP of $35,550. The 3.0t Sport trim starts off at $48,050, and the line-topping Red Sport 400 starts at $51,350.

The more optional packages and singular items drivers add on, the more the price will rise. While added features are nice, even the base trim levels are all pretty well-equipped.

Final Thoughts

Infiniti clearly works hard to make the Q50 sedan an attractive luxury sport vehicle. It competes well with other vehicles in its class despite not being one of the ever-popular German luxury autos. The Infiniti Q50 is a good choice for buyers looking for a luxury sedan at an affordable price. It has plenty of creature comforts, and the available powertrains are all able to get the Q50 up and running on the highway.

History Facts - The American Revolution

  1. The American Revolution happened between the years 1765 and 1783. The aim of the conflict, pushed by the thirteen American colonies against Great Britain, was to gain independence through the creation of a sovereign nation. With the help of France, America eventually triumphed in this objective.
  2. American colonists who supported the fight for independence were called "patriots." Those who sided with the British crown, whose soldiers were called redcoats, or devils, were referred to as loyalists. Many of those who did not take sides in the war were called fence-sitters.
  3. One of the leading causes of the American Revolution was summarized in the slogan "no taxation without representation", wherein American colonists believed it to be illegal for them to be affected by laws enacted in British parliament without their input.
  4. Being taxed without proper representation was deemed oppressive, and this prompted the start of many protests. In turn, this led to the Boston Massacre in 1770, where British soldiers shot and killed protesters while being harassed in Boston.
  5. The Whig Party opposed constitutional monarchism in parliament. They also criticized the British government for their corrupt practices. This former political faction also refused to support the use of military force against the colonists to resolve the problems which had given rise to the American Revolution.
  6. During the American Revolution, some African-American slaves were enticed to fight in favor of the British who, in turn, promised liberty to those who supported the loyalist forces. Since some slaves chose to fight alongside their masters, this meant there were African-Americans on both sides of the conflict.
