iPhone XS Max Review

Apple recently announced 3 new iPhones, including the iPhone XS Max. This model costs from $1,099 for 64 GB of storage to $1,449 for 512 GB of storage. You can also get one with 256 GB of storage for $1,249.

A12 Bionic Processor

This processor is a 7nm chip that has two performance cores for intensive tasks, which reportedly operate up to 15% faster than the ones in the iPhone X. It also has 4 efficiency cores for ordinary tasks, which reportedly operate up to 50% faster than the ones in the iPhone X. The graphic processing unit (GPU) is also reportedly up to 50% faster, too. This means that games should run much faster than on an iPhone X.

The device further comes with an 8-core neural engine for performing tasks related to artificial intelligence.

Super Retina OLED Display

The iPhone XS Max’s display has a resolution of 2,688 x 1,242 pixels. It also includes Apple’s True Tone technology, which measures the lighting around it to adjust the display’s color temperature.

Dual 12-Megapixel Back-Facing Camera

The camera has both a telephoto and zoom lens, and it has a sensor that supports Smart HDR, which lets users snap photos with a greater range.

Like the camera in the iPhone X, it can also shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second; this means that it will be better able to capture pictures that have a lot of motion.

7-megapixel Front-Facing Camera

This camera, which includes facial identifying technology, uses True Depth technology to blur backgrounds. It’s faster at recognizing faces than previous models, improving Face ID from before.

Fast Charging Battery

While Apple has yet to release exact specifications of the battery in the iPhone XS Max, the company says that it will last 90 minutes longer than the one included in the iPhone X. It will also support wireless Qi charging, and it will charge faster than the battery in the iPhone X; they have yet to specify exactly how much faster.

The device also ships with a 5W slow charger.

Dual SIM Support

The iPhone XS Max is capable of supporting two phone lines in one device. It has both a physical nanoSIM card and an eSIM. An eSIM makes it easier to change carriers since there is nothing physical to replace in the device.

IP68 Water and Dust Resistance

This phone has improved water and dust resistance in comparison to prior models. It now has an IP68 rating, which makes it roughly equivalent to the durability of Samsung Galaxy 9 phones. This rating means that the device can resist water up to 6.6 feet (2 meters) for about 30 minutes.

Audio Recording in Stereo

The device has 4 microphones, which allow users to capture stereo sound when shooting a video, something that no iPhone could do before.

Stereo Speakers

While there are no details about the speakers that come with the iPhone XS Max, Apple says that they are improved over the speakers in the iPhone X, with a wider audio range.

The iPhone XS Max comes in silver, gray, and gold.

Finally, the device is 6.2” (157.5 mm) tall, 3.05” (77.4 mm) wide, and 0.3” (7.7 mm) thick, and it weighs 7.34 ounces (208 grams).

Overall, this phone improves upon the technology present in previous models, with better audio, cameras, and durability. Those looking for a smaller phone will be disappointed by the larger size of the iPhone XS Max, however.
