2. Betty Ford Center
Betty Ford Center is located in Rancho Mirage, California. It was established in 1982 by the former first lady Betty Ford when addiction was first becoming known as a disease, so they have almost 40 years of experience in treating addiction. They use a multidisciplinary approach to addiction treatment that addresses the mind, body, and spirit, using the interpersonal support provided by the Twelve Steps. The staff takes every factor (e.g. physical health, mental health, family history, substances used, relapse risk, and medical needs) into consideration to formulate the most accurate treatment plan for each client. One of their notable treatment methods is animal therapy with their golden retriever named Irish. Betty Ford Center is also known for their Family Program and Children’s Program to help the clients’ families heal because addiction is a family disease. 3. Passages Malibu
Passages Malibu is located in Malibu, California. They have received many recognitions from several organizations and magazines. They do not use the Twelve Steps; instead, they try to figure out the cause of each client’s addiction and treat that cause using a one-on-one approach. Their research shows that there are four causes of addiction, which are a biochemical imbalance, painful past events that not have been dealt with, current situation being difficult to cope with, and distorted beliefs. 4. Malibu Beach Recovery Center
Malibu Beach Recovery Center is located in Malibu, California by the Pacific Ocean and Malibu Canyons. Their treatment programs are gender-specific because they understand that men and women experience gender-specific addiction issues. The facility is a two-acre mansion that has a swimming pool and tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts. Their holistic treatment focuses on “restoring the brain chemistry” and “rejuvenating the body’s reward system.” Their cooking classes, which are intended to teach the clients to boost their dopamine levels naturally, are taught by a professional chef. 5. Serenity New Life
Serenity New Life is located in Orange, California. In addition to using the common traditional and experiential therapies, Serenity New Life uses SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) imaging to address the physiological aspect of addiction. SPECT imaging enables the staff to monitor the client’s brain blood flow and activity in order to treat him or her in a scientifically-proven way. The cost ranges from $10,000 to $30,000, and they accept most insurance plans.
6. Northbound Treatment Services
Northbound Treatment Services is located in Newport Beach, California. A unique benefit of Northbound Treatment Services is that the client to staff ratio is one-to-one, so the client will always be given adequate support and individualized attention from the staff. The programs are gender-specific. Their unique treatment approach is called In Vivo. This treatment approach consists of clients living in real-world but supervised houses throughout the area as opposed to a single secluded treatment facility campus. After they have progressed to a certain extent in treatment, the clients can use cell phones, obtain passes to go off-site, and seek educational and employment opportunities. 7. Soba Recovery Center
Sober Recovery Center is located on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. They value finding the underlying issues that fueled the client’s addiction and helping him or her develop a new perspective to achieve optimal recovery. They have a small client to staff ratio to provide as much individualized care a possible, and an aftercare program that helps the client as they transition into the outside world as a recovering individual. The cost ranges; the first month costs $28,000, and the subsequent months cost $14,000 per month without insurance and other assistance.
